Dr Happiness Chemicals or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and avoid the 'BigSad'.
Dr Happiness Chemicals or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and avoid the 'BigSad' is based on the thought: A life hack for a better living is manually stimulating the so-called "Happiness Chemicals" in your body. Man is destined to be a spiritual being but what happens when that man reproduces at an enormous rate like rats; eats like a pig; materialises on wealth like, well, Man, and tries to disrupt a civilization for political procurements? Yes, you guessed it right- The world watches Netflix. The four chemical messengers; Endorphins, Dopamine, Serotonin and Oxytocin, overall act as regulators of human emotional responses (among other things) and the combination of these "Happiness Chemicals" makes up for your Mental Health. In this piece, we'll tell you how to tame these chemicals for a better living.
Endorphins A.K.A 'The Pain Killer'
The people who've had fractures will relate to this. Ever been in brooding pain at a hospital and the nurse comes and injects Morphine in your Veins? For 6 seconds you feel so happy that you wouldn't even want to change positions, it's like you're paralysed with all the happiness in the world, pain's gone; only a numbness you want to pursue. Anyway, the point being, Endorphins do the same job. They kill your pain and in turn, make you happier or more comfortable with this world. Endorphins, in a general sense, are released when we exercise or laugh out loud, or read and watch funny things. Some practical things that can make "Kill your pain" are:-
a) Hide behind a door and when someone enters shout "BHOOOOOO", this always works. You are sure to laugh out loud; always works, although a major problem occurs when the other person tries to slap you, like my mom, she has slapped me multiple times when I shouted "BHOOO" and shocked her, then again, Endorphins killed my pain, so win-win.
b) Try to bend forward and backwards and try to spread your arms and legs more and more when you're massaging yourself with soap, you can also do it while showering, but if you're like me, you wouldn't exercise without an ulterior purpose. So this trick makes you exercise in turn releasing endorphins and of course, keeps you cleaner. Two stones one bird (What?)
c) Try to make more "Knock Knock" jokes and laugh at them. I've used this trick multiple times when I get lonely and talk to myself (which is like most of the times);
"Nobody knows the trouble I've seen, nobody knows my sorrow"
Anyway, Endorphins are highly qualified Dr Happiness Chemicals or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and avoid the 'BigSad'.
Dopamine A.K.A "The Worth Acknowldg-er"
Don't let anybody tell you your valid need for attention is just a hoax. Dopamine is the prime scientific example of why humans stay happy when they constantly receive appraisals for the various tasks they try and finish. Dopamine is another one of our "being comfortable with the world" example. It is released when you get "Shaabaashi" for the tasks you complete. A reward from your Boss when you complete an important assignment, salary addendums or even the impulsive 'cart-filling' you do on online shopping platforms after a long day of work is, in fact, because all these activities help in releasing Dopamine. Some tricks to get more of it are;
a) Eat Cake(or anything you love eating) whenever you get up on time as a way of rewarding yourself.
b) If you're sick with the habit over-spending impulsively; try to buy small things from street vendors (like toys or eatables or anything). This will not only release Dopamine, but also Serotonin (which we'll talk about in this article later) making you much happier.
c)Ask your Mom or partner or whomsoever you live with, to compliment you whenever you clean your room or make your bed or dust the house or maybe even cut your nails (which is a daunting task for me, at least). Dopamine is one of your 'go-to' Dr Happiness Chemicals or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and avoid the 'BigSad'.
Serotonin A.K.A "the giver"
Unpopular opinion; People who think a benevolent person is not selfish are wrong if they consider mental health as important a currency as money. A Serotonin loaded brain acts as the billionaire who gives his wealth to the humble and helps humanity in order to get tax exemptions, but in this case, Serotonin acts as the tax exemption. The level of Serotonin also increases with meditative activities like listening to music or travelling, anything which stimulates deep thinking, maybe that's why Conspiracy theorists never stop conspiring against the conventions. The sociological trigger of serotonin is helping people in any way; writing self-help blogs or helping the elderly or letting the needy get ahead in the State Bank queue are all activities that release serotonin. Some activities which can help us release serotonin are;
a) Pick the noses of people who have small fingers, ewwwwwwwww no, lol, kidding, don't even try that. Maybe try writing blogs on how you coped up with an anxious work meeting by placating with "Hmm" "Yess" "you're right" and "Right now I don't have any idea, but I'll tell you when I have one"
b) Start a humane campaign on Teaching Boomers to use Smartphones and Computers, it won't be a lot of work, you'll just have to tell them: "READ THE OPTIONS ON THE SCREEN AND DO AS YOU PLEASE".
c) In-Person delivery of Condoms to people who are too shy to ask for it from the shop owner. A solution India eagerly wants. If you want to be as happy as a billionaire who gets tax exemptions please consult Dr Happiness Chemicals or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and avoid the 'BigSad'.
Oxytocin A.K.A "The Mother"
Lack of Oxytocin is the reason why our lonely grandparents constantly pat, peck, hold hands and hug their grandkids whenever they meet them (a curse which "Nuclear families" endow upon us). Oxytocin is the love hormone which is usually released through warm human contact. A good amount of Oxytocin in our body obviously makes us happier and caring (or in other words a good human being) towards society. That's why the lack of human contact creates a highly depressive aura in a human being. Anyway, the point being; Touch others as much as you touch yourself (just not criminally). Some activities which can stimulate the release of Oxytocin can be;
a) Having pets and petting them forever, petting them even when that ignorant kitten tries to get away from you. Staunchly stomp your love towards them.
b) Hugging your family members or your beloved friends or anyone you care for from time to time, just remember to wear a good perfume all the time.
c) Take inspiration from your parents and try to be as compassionate towards people as your parents were towards you, but also throw 'chappals' or hit them with kitchen weaponry once in a while.
